Practical Information

Venue

All conference activities will take place at the Rob and Cheryl McEwen Graduate Study & Research Building at the Schulich School of Business, York University in Toronto, Ontario.

The Rob and Cheryl McEwen Graduate Study & Research Building is among the most environmentally sustainable academic buildings in North America. The building includes many technical features at the forefront of environmental sustainability in North America. It optimizes the use of solar energy and uses shading devices to maximize daylight. A 27-metre high solar chimney drives passive natural ventilation and pre-heats the air intake. The building is among the very few in Canada to incorporate Thermally Active Building Systems – radiant heating and cooling. The building also features a green roof and rainwater recapture system, as well as a number of other leading-edge technical features.

The School is located approximately a 30-minute drive (traffic dependent) from Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. Easy public transit is available for participants arriving on local flights at the smaller downtown Billy Bishop Airport.

Alternative Accommodations

For those wishing to stay off campus (e.g., downtown Toronto), we would encourage you to find options along the TTC’s Line 1 (the University side, i.e. between Union and York University) to ensure easy, direct and quick arrival to York University.

Getting Here

The Schulich School of Business is connected to downtown Toronto by subway, with York University station located directly outside the School. You can stay downtown for the arts and culture, while easily getting to the conference venue on public transit.

If you are arriving in Toronto by air, the Toronto Pearson Airport is about a 30-minute taxi ride from the School, depending on traffic. Those arriving on short-haul flights at the downtown Billy Bishop Airport can get to the School by public transit, via the Union subway station.

Public Transit

The TTC’s York University station is located steps away from the Schulich School of Business. For information about TTC schedules, operation hours and fares, please click here.

Other public transit options, including GOZüm and YRT/Viva, offer convenient connections to the University.

Driving

Driving directions to the Schulich School of Business can be found on Google Maps. The Student Services Parking Garage is where you want to end up. It is directly across from the School’s south entrance. It features an underground link to the Schulich School of Business, in case of inclement weather.

If you are looking up the address on your phone, keep in mind that York University and the Schulich School of Business operate multiple campuses. The one you want is at 4700 Keele Street in Toronto, which shows up on some mapping apps as 4700 Keele Street, North York, ON.

Parking

Parking at York University is not controlled by the Executive Learning Centre. Please visit the York University Parking Services website for more details.

Please note: Parking fees cannot be charged to an in-house guest room account. Parking can only be paid through the HonkMobile App.

Here are the step-by-step instructions for ELC guests parking in the Student Services Garage using the HonkMobile app:

By Air

Almost all international and domestic flights will arrive at the Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ). It’s about a 30-minute taxi ride, depending on traffic, to get to York University. All licensed taxis operate from Pearson Airport on an official distance-determined rate (i.e., the fare depends on your destination, not the travel time).

Some short-haul domestic and US flights will arrive at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ), in downtown Toronto. There is a free shuttle from YTZ that will take you to Union Station. Alternatively, you can take a short cab ride. From Union it is easy to get to York University campus by subway. Note that taxi rides directly from this airport to York University campus can vary widely in fare and time depending on traffic conditions.

What to Do in Toronto
